In contrast to the sheet depicting Pale Horse, the theme of death is interpreted here as a theme of coming salvation. An angel is blessing the battle field with his presence. His wings spread out over the dead soldiers, arms are in a prayerful gesture. This gesture reminds of the gestures of Orans in early Christian catacombs and in the paintings of the Orthodox churches. The idea of righteous death sounds like a consolation, like promise of salvation.
