French (Gallic) Rooster.

Rooster is a symbol of France, the ally of Russia in World War I (Britain, France and Russia were in the military-political alliance, the Triple Entente). It’s shown screaming, standing on the edge of the gun barrel, surrounded by flying cannonballs. This battle cry calls for attention, it announces the imminent danger. No wonder that a rooster was always on guard for peace in Russian fairy tales, and it was the first to announce the oncoming disaster. This is a theme that is played up here, and the symbol turns out to be complex and multi-meaningful.
