The series of lithographs to Tikhon Churilin’s poems was created in 1912, while the book was published only in 1915. Tikhon Churilin (1885-1946) had a very complicated life ("a mad poet outside of groups"); he spent two years (1910-1912) in a psychiatric hospital and later he called this period "two years of spiritual death." Describing his poetry Marina Tsvetaeva wrote: "The whole book was created under the sign of resurrection and the recent death... The book is light and dark, like the face of a man raised from the dead...."
Concise, accurate, created only in black and white illustrations by Natalia Goncharova reveals the meaning and the mood of the poems in their own way.
